SOAP star Jessie Wallace today warns BBC bosses to keep the big storylines coming—or that's the Ender Kat!
The pregnant actress told the News of the World she'll WALK OUT on the show if she's no longer happy with her scenes.
But the EastEnders favourite, who plays brassy Kat Moon, has come up with the perfect plot to please her—a torrid affair in the Square.
Jessie, 32, said: "If Kat could sleep with someone else on the show that would be good, great in fact.
"But if Kat's storylines get boring I'll leave. I'll only stay at EastEnders as long as the character is fresh.
"I love the show but you never know what's round the corner. And I don't think I'll be in it forever."
Suspended
Jessie's ultimatum follows a staggering reversal in fortunes since her character wed Alfie Moon—played by Shane Richie—and she became one of the soap's hottest properties.
Because last year it was Jessie who was threatened with the sack as she hit headlines for all the wrong reasons— boozing, brawling and falling out with her co-stars.
Embarrassing photos showed her staggering out of a club in a drunken stupor with soap sister Elaine Lordan.
And Jessie was even suspended from the show for two months after a row with a pool player in Los Angeles.
But now, in the second part of our interview with Britain's best-loved barmaid, Jessie says she's a reformed character—thanks to fiancé Dave Morgan and their unborn baby, conceived during a Valentine's Day romp in the shower.
"One photograph of me and Elaine leaving a club haunts me to this day," admitted Jessie.
"I was drunk just like everyone else. And even though the picture was taken three years ago, people still bring it up. I wish it was gone, but maybe things will change when I'm seen pushing a pram and going home early.
"Although I still like to have a good time, now I tend to go to the studio, do my work and then go home. I don't socialise with the cast—and I haven't had a hangover since Christmas!"
The main reason for three-months-pregnant Jessie's new sober image is that she is OFF the booze.
She laughed: "My tastebuds have completely changed, I don't even want a drink. I've gone completely off it.
"Now and again I fancy the odd glass of Guinness, but that's good for you because it's packed with iron.
"It also doesn't help that much of the time I feel sick—like I've eaten a lot. Sometimes I feel sick all day—but it's a nice feeling because I know why." Looking at Jessie, brimming with happiness and confidence, it's hard to believe that a year ago her soap future hung in the balance.
Following her suspension, she found herself in more hot water after reportedly slapping Hannah Waterman—who played Laura Beale—at an awards bash.
But even worse was to come when she was hauled before the courts to face a shameful drink-drive ban.
"All those stories get me down, it's like a kick in the teeth," said Jessie. "They say these things give you a thick skin, but I've still got feelings and at times I felt I was being ripped to bits.
"Everyone seems to think I hate Hannah because I was supposed to have slapped her once, but all that stuff never happened.
"If it did I would put my hands up and admit it, but really, it never did. I get on with pretty much everyone I work with. You have to."
Despite the problems that come with living in the public eye, Jessie says she couldn't be happier in her private life. And she owes it all to Dave. The 28-year-old ex-copper came to her rescue when she hit rock bottom—assigned to protect her during her drink-drive court appearances.
Today they are engaged—and the actress is more popular than she has ever been. What is more, EastEnders bosses know they can't afford to lose one of their biggest stars.
Their ratings have slumped as low as 10.9 million as favourites such as Martin Kemp, Tamzin Outhwaite and Steve McFadden have quit. And others such as Charlie Brooks are leaving.
That may be why Jessie has seen a string of dramatic storylines head her way—not least Kat's Indecent Proposal heartache with bitter ex Andy Hunter.
In next Friday's show, Kat sleeps with the Walford gangster—to clear Alfie's £10,000 debt. But the sleazeball gangster secretly tapes the romp and it becomes public knowledge.
Pregnant
Shocked and humiliated, Alfie ends up in the arms of Kat's sister Little Mo—who returns to the Square after her rape ordeal.
Jessie grinned: "The storyline is just great at the moment and it gets even better—the love triangle is particularly good stuff.
"Even so, I still get nervous about future stories because you never know what might happen.
"I know people appreciate what I do, that they like the show, and people call me Kat all the time—even my Nan did. But truly, I don't know how many more years I'm going to stay playing her."
Meanwhile, Jessie's biggest role to date is coming up in November—when she becomes a mum for the first time.
The star, who is patron of the Little Haven Children's Hospital in Essex, said: "I don't know yet how much time off work I will get.
"But I am more than happy to work until I'm eight months pregnant, if that's what they want."
And if Jessie does that then Kat certainly will be a full Moon!
